9100 Series
Defendant/Offender Reentry

Over 650,000 ex-offenders are released from state and federal correctional facilities annually. The Bureau of Justice Statistics estimates that over 50% will be in legal trouble within three years. The challenges and issues faced by people attempting to "go straight" and turn their lives around can seem daunting. Although these statistics are grim some ex-offenders do succeed. This series is intended to help ex-offenders set realistic goals, reconnect with friends and family, find work, and chart a course away from crime and towards successful reintegration to life on the "outside". (See also Personal Improvement, Parenting, Career Skills, and Military Life & Issues.)

Getting Out, Staying Out, and Starting Over

Most everyone getting out of prison thinks they’re not going back… fewer than half of them are right. Their odds are better if they stay clean and sober, develop a healthy self-esteem, and follow through on the goals they set for themselves. By directly addressing those issues, this booklet shows them where to start in order to make that hope a reality.
